What Is A Shalom Pilgrimage?

A shalom pilgrimage is an experiential learning journey based on my book, "Seeing Jesus in East Harlem: What Happens When Churches Show Up and Stay Put."

Part guided tour, part interactive neighborhood experience in East Harlem, participants will have an opportunity to engage with several places and people in East Harlem that will provide a historical, biblical and theological framework for considering neighborhood engagement across racial, economics, class and criminal justice.

In this pilgrimage, Pastor Jose Humphreys offers a framework to help church leaders take discipleship seriously in their context, calling them to show up, stay put, and see what God is doing in their midst.

Combining spiritual formation with activism, vivid narrative with exhortation, and realism with hopefulness, Humphreys offers pastors, ministry leaders and church planters a thoughtful look at discipleship in a complex world.

At the end participants will have with a biblically and theologically embodied approach to engaging culture through a framework they can readily use back in their own contexts.
